Magnetic Resonance (MR)

Similar to a CT scan, a doctor obtains cross-section images of the body by using magnetic resonance. Magnetic resonance imaging utilizes a powerful magnetic field in place of the x-rays that are used in computed tomography. In some cases, magnetic resonance imaging can be even more informative. It provides an excellent contrast between normal and pathological tissue. With the help of a special radio antenna, separate body parts can be examined (knee, elbow, shoulder joints, backbone segments, etc.). The magnetic resonance method is indicated for patients who have negative computed tomography results but definite clinical inclinations that further examination is necessary. Magnetic resonance imaging takes longer than a computed tomography scan (usually 30 min to an hour).[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

The most precise MR examinations in Latvia

The orthopedic, traumatology, and spinal surgery clinic ORTO, at Bukultu iela 1a, has Siemens MAGNETOM Spectra magnetic resonance (MR) equipment, which is the only one of this type of diagnostic equipment in Latvia. It encompasses the latest achievements and technologies in the field of magnetic resonance. LLC „Veselības centrs 4” has installed this world’s latest and most informative MR equipment alongside the computed tomography (CT) clinic at the „ORTO” facilities. With this closed MR equipment, which has a magnetic field strength of 3T(teslas) without losing obtained image resolution, it is possible to perform an examination faster and with better quality. This is especially important in the case of serious illness, when it is difficult for the patient to remain immobile for a long period of time, or claustrophobia. The Siemens MAGNETOM SpectraMR is unique in that it opens up the possibility to also make a simultaneous full body scan, which could not be previously done in Latvia with the available MR equipment whose magnetic field strength did not exceed 1.5T, and to also obtain extremely high precision diagnostic images for the needs of CyberKnife® therapy.

To prepare the appropriate images for the requirements of the CyberKnife® procedure, appointments for MR examinations can be made by either calling our general consultation hotline (+371) 20270077 or by calling the MR registration telephone at the ORTO Clinic at tel. (+371) 67144013, 67016720, mobile tel. (+371) 27863967
